About Ian Nuttall

Ian Nuttall is a generalist entrepreneur, marketer and software engineer. He has been writing software for more than 30 years and has started and sold many internet businesses over the past two decades, including one project sold for a seven-figure sum. He has worked in SEO since 2005 and is one of the most widely followed voices on X where search marketing meets AI-assisted coding, with more than 80,000 followers.

Much of his work has involved programmatic SEO. In October 2021 he bought a neglected niche content site for $50K that was earning about $600 a month from display ads. He rebuilt it as a programmatic SEO site and stuck with it through a Google update that briefly halved its traffic. He later reported it earning about $6-7K a month largely passively. He also created a programmatic SEO course, Practical Programmatic, and sold it on.

In late 2023 he launched two SEO SaaS tools, Keyword Metrics, which surfaces high-traffic keywords a site already ranks for, and URL Monitor, which tracks indexing in Google and bulk-submits new pages. He said they reached $100K ARR about four months after launch, with almost all customers coming from X. URL Monitor has since been renamed Cromojo, and keywordmetrics.com now redirects there.

Since 2022 he has focused on shipping products with AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code and Codex, and he writes practical posts on building quality software quickly with agents. His site ian.is hosts a suite of SEO tools built on Google Search Console data, including internal linking suggestions, quick wins, title and CTR fixes, content decay, cannibalisation, a rank tracker, an index monitor and an AI referral traffic report. His newsletter has more than 9,000 subscribers.
