About Fabrizio Rinaldi

Fabrizio Rinaldi is an Italian designer, developer and filmmaker who co-founded Typefully, a tool for writing, scheduling and publishing content across social platforms. Typefully is used by more than 220,000 creators, and Fabrizio's X bio lists it at around $2M ARR.

Originally from southern Italy, Fabrizio studied filmmaking in Bologna, worked in 3D graphics and VFX, and directed the sci-fi short film Encounter, which screened at festivals including the Vancouver International Film Festival. He met developer Francesco Di Lorenzo on Twitter; together they built Boxy, a Mac client for Inbox by Gmail, and later Boxy Suite, a premium Gmail app for Mac that earned about $40K in its first three months.

In late 2018 the pair left their jobs at a fast-growing Milan tech company (Fabrizio lists Bending Spoons as a previous employer) to found Superlinear and work on their own products. They launched Unreadit, a network of automated newsletters curated from Reddit, and then Mailbrew, which turns sources like Twitter, Reddit, RSS and YouTube into scheduled email digests. Mailbrew launched in March 2020 and was sold in 2022, and Typefully became the main focus.

Fabrizio lives in Lisbon, runs the lofi.cafe music stream with Marianna, and is building Cogito, a native Markdown editor for Mac.

How Fabrizio builds

  • Use a private beta to learn positioning and fix rough edges before a public launch.
  • Don't rush launches; prepare them properly and launch often.
  • Invest in marketing and SEO instead of relying on launch spikes.
  • Draw inspiration from outside startups, such as films and books.
