Livewire
livewire.laravel.com
Full-stack framework for Laravel that builds dynamic interfaces without leaving PHP.
Creator of Livewire, Alpine.js and Flux UI, funded by sponsors and component sales
Caleb Porzio is an independent open source developer from Buffalo, New York, best known for creating Livewire, the full-stack framework for Laravel, and Alpine.js, the lightweight JavaScript framework for sprinkling interactivity into server-rendered HTML.
He left his job at the Laravel consultancy Tighten in January 2019 for what was meant to be a sabbatical. Days later he built the first proof of concept of Livewire, and the sabbatical turned into a full-time career in open source.
Caleb became one of the most visible examples of sustainable open source funding. In 2020 he wrote publicly about crossing six figures a year on GitHub Sponsors, driven largely by sponsor-only screencasts and a 'sponsorware' model he helped popularize, where new packages stay exclusive to sponsors until a funding goal is reached.
He later added commercial products on top of his frameworks, including premium Alpine UI Components and Flux, a paid UI component library for Livewire. He also co-hosts the No Plans To Merge podcast.
