Ran Segall

Ran Segall is a designer, YouTuber and educator best known as the founder of Flux Academy, an online school that teaches web design, Webflow, Framer and the business of freelancing. He grew Flux from a personal vlog into a course business with more than 12,000 students worldwide.

Segall spent close to two decades as a designer before teaching. He worked at a large advertising agency, then freelanced, designing websites, products and brands for startups. He has said he felt limited for years by having to hand his designs over to developers, and that Webflow changed his work because it let him build the sites himself.

In November 2015 he started a YouTube channel called Flux, and through 2016 he posted a daily vlog documenting client meetings and behind-the-scenes freelance work. The channel brought in almost no clients, but it built an audience of designers. Around 2018, after an on-camera coaching session with Chris Do of The Futur pushed him to take the channel seriously as a business, he pre-sold and launched his first course, the Webflow Masterclass. Its success changed the business: by about 2020 he had stopped client work entirely to focus on education.

Flux Academy now offers a catalogue of paid courses, including the Webflow Masterclass, Framer Masterclass, Figma for Web Designers, Web Design Masterclass, Brand Design Mastery, Freelancing for Web Designers and Core Design Skills, plus Web Career Ignite, a mentored career program, and a Flux Membership with mentoring, certification and AI-focused material. The Flux Academy YouTube channel remains the main way students find the school. Segall is based in Tel Aviv.

Segall is a good example of a YouTuber who turned a niche skill audience into a product business, and of how no-code builders such as Webflow and Framer created a new market for designer-focused education.
