Creator of Hacking with Swift, the free Swift and SwiftUI learning site

About Paul Hudson

Paul Hudson is a British developer, author and educator best known as the creator and editor of Hacking with Swift, one of the most widely used free resources for learning Swift and SwiftUI. He started the site in 2014, the year Apple announced Swift, and has grown it into a large library of tutorials, example projects, videos and structured courses such as 100 Days of Swift and 100 Days of SwiftUI.

Before focusing on Hacking with Swift he spent around eight years in computer journalism, writing for magazines including Linux Format and MacFormat, and later worked as a full-time iOS developer. He says his enterprise iOS work reached tens of millions of users, and that he has built more than 100 apps across Apple platforms, Android and other systems in his spare time.

His business, Hudson Heavy Industries, sells more than 20 books on Swift, SwiftUI, SwiftData, testing, design patterns and Apple platform development, along with the Hacking with Swift+ subscription. He also built the free Unwrap app for learning Swift on iPhone and iPad, the open-source Ignite static site builder for Swift developers, and Kickstart, an app that helps indie developers manage App Store listings, research, pricing and launches.

Hudson is a frequent conference speaker and workshop host, runs Hacking with Swift Live and Unwrap Live events, and organises the Swift Community Awards. He is based in Bath in the UK.

How Paul builds

  • Learning resources should be free and accessible to anyone.
  • Learn by building real projects, a little every day.
  • Shipping an app well depends on more than code: listing, pricing and marketing matter too.
