Manton Reece

Austin developer who founded and leads the indie blogging platform Micro.blog

About Manton Reece

Manton Reece is a long-time web, iOS and Mac developer in Austin, Texas, and the founder and lead developer of Micro.blog, an independent blogging and social platform built around people owning their own blogs and domains. Before Micro.blog he built several Mac and iOS apps and Tweet Marker, an early API for syncing Twitter timeline positions across apps.

He launched Micro.blog in April 2017 after a Kickstarter campaign that passed its $10,000 goal on the first day. The platform is funded by paid hosting plans rather than ads or venture capital and is run by a very small team, with Reece writing much of the code across the web, iOS and Mac apps.

As part of the Kickstarter he committed to writing a book, Indie Microblogging, about why independent publishing on the open web matters; he published the final draft online in January 2026. He blogs daily at manton.org and is a frequent voice for the IndieWeb and open protocols.
