About Jonas Tyroller
Jonas Tyroller is a German indie game developer and YouTuber. He studied game design at HTW Berlin, where he co-founded the small studio Grizzly Games with fellow students Paul Schnepf and Friedemann Allmenröder. Their first release was Superflight, a minimalist wingsuit flying game that started as a school project and came out on Steam in 2017.
In 2019 the trio released Islanders, a minimalist city-building game made in about seven months, which became one of the top-selling new releases on Steam that month and later came to consoles and VR. Tyroller then made Will You Snail?, a solo project about a platformer run by a trash-talking AI that predicts the player's moves, released in 2022 with publisher No Gravity Games. Back at Grizzly Games, now a two-person team with Paul Schnepf, he co-created Thronefall, a minimalist strategy game mixing base building and tower defense. It entered Early Access in 2023, sold just under a million copies in its first year, left Early Access in October 2024, and passed one million copies before its final content update in early 2025. The Thronefall IP was later acquired by Mythwright.
Tyroller is equally known for his YouTube channel, where he publishes devlogs and in-depth videos about game design, finding fun ideas, prototyping quickly and the business of indie games. His transparent breakdowns of how Thronefall and his other games were made have made him a go-to reference for aspiring indie developers.
