Thronefall was built by Jonas Tyroller and sold to Mythwright in 2025.
Why they sold: As a two-person studio, Grizzly Games felt it lacked the resources to fully explore what Thronefall could become, and the developers wanted to move on to new projects.
Thronefall is a minimalist strategy game that mixes kingdom building with tower defense. Jonas Tyroller and Paul Schnepf made it as Grizzly Games and self-published it. It entered Early Access on Steam in 2023, left Early Access in October 2024, and sold more than one million units.
In December 2025 the UK indie publisher Mythwright acquired the full Thronefall IP from Grizzly Games for an undisclosed fee. Mythwright took over future development and kept Grizzly's partnership with Doghowl Games, which publishes the Android and iOS versions.
Grizzly Games had made a similar move before, selling the IP of its earlier hit Islanders to Coatsink so it could focus on its next project.
