exit story ยท 2022 ยท indie game makers
Islanders was built by Jonas Tyroller and sold to Coatsink (Thunderful) in 2022.
Islanders is a minimalist city-building game in which players place buildings on procedurally generated islands. Grizzly Games, the small studio Jonas Tyroller co-founded with fellow HTW Berlin students Paul Schnepf and Friedemann Allmenrรถder, released it on Steam in 2019 after about seven months of development. It became one of Steam's top-selling new releases that month.
Coatsink, part of the Swedish group Thunderful, worked with Grizzly Games on the console editions. On May 23, 2022 Coatsink and Thunderful announced they had acquired the Islanders franchise for an undisclosed fee. They planned DLC, more platforms and a possible sequel, working in partnership with the original developers.
Tyroller went on to make Will You Snail? and co-created Thronefall with Paul Schnepf.
