Why they sold: After about two years of running it, Florin Pop felt burned out, wanted to focus on new projects, thought someone else could take it further, and wanted the flexibility of $50K in cash.

The story of iCodeThis

Florin Pop started iCodeThis in December 2022 as a daily coding-challenge platform for frontend developers. He validated the idea by posting UI designs on Twitter and asking followers to code them, then built an app where members could submit their solutions. It grew to more than 56,000 members through daily challenges, a Discord community, building in public and affiliate videos. Most of its roughly $67K in revenue came from one-time payments, after subscriptions failed to scale.

Boot.dev approached Pop after he posted publicly about possibly selling, but he was not ready at the time. In early 2025 he went back to Boot.dev CEO Lane Wagner, and after some negotiation they agreed on $50,000. He was paid $10K when the agreement was signed and the rest after the assets were handed over, which took only a few hours.

After the sale Pop moved on to new projects, including a gamified time-tracking app called Indie Action.

Lessons Florin Pop shared

  1. 1.Building a large user base increases what a buyer will pay.
  2. 2.Stay open to offers: he had not planned to sell, but the right buyer came to him.
  3. 3.Treat each project as a stepping stone to the next.
