About Paras Chopra
Paras Chopra is an Indian software entrepreneur best known as the founder of Wingify, the Delhi company behind the A/B testing tool VWO (Visual Website Optimizer), which he grew to about $50 million in annual recurring revenue without ever raising venture capital.
Chopra studied at Delhi College of Engineering and briefly worked as an R&D engineer before starting Wingify in 2009. With no budget and no audience, he wrote long educational articles about A/B testing and conversion rates for outlets such as Smashing Magazine, which brought VWO its first users. He launched paid plans at $99 a month instead of the $9 he had planned, and the first month of paid plans brought in about $4,000. Sparsh Gupta joined as co-founder and later became CEO, while Chopra moved to the chairman role.
Wingify stayed bootstrapped for more than fifteen years. Its revenue from operations reached Rs 288.61 crore in FY24, up from Rs 220.60 crore a year earlier, with a profit of Rs 61.04 crore, and roughly 90% of revenue came from the US and Europe. In January 2025 the private equity firm Everstone agreed to buy a majority stake at a valuation of around $200 million, one of the largest deals ever for a bootstrapped Indian SaaS company. Chopra kept a minority stake and a board seat but gave up any operational role.
Between the two chapters he tried a venture-backed company: Nintee, a healthtech app launched in April 2023 with backing from Peak XV Partners and CRED founder Kunal Shah, which was shut down about a year later. After the Wingify deal he started Lossfunk, an independent research lab in Indiranagar, Bangalore, that hosts fellows, residents and sabbaticals for people working on open-ended questions in intelligence, science and technology.
Chopra matters to indie makers because VWO is one of the clearest proofs that a software company built in India for a global market can reach tens of millions in revenue on customer money alone. He has written about product, thinking and science for years on his blog Inverted Passion and is followed by more than 240,000 people on X.
