Kevon Cheung

Hong Kong educator who taught building in public, now building AI learning tools for kids

About Kevon Cheung

Kevon Cheung is a Hong Kong-born educator and builder who became one of the best-known teachers of building in public. He grew up tinkering with websites, moved alone to the United States at 15 for boarding school at Tabor Academy, and studied entrepreneurship and finance at Babson College. After teaching himself to code he took a software engineering job in Singapore, then spent four years expanding a kids' coding school across Asia and two years leading a funded startup that built software for online teaching, which was later acquired.

During the pandemic in 2020 he realised years of work had left almost no public trace of him, and started writing openly online. His free Building in Public Definitive Guide, published in 2021, went viral and has since been read by around 50,000 entrepreneurs. He built Public Lab around it, teaching the cohort course Build in Public Mastery on Maven, the self-paced Easy Content Magic course, newsletter sponsorships and coaching, and in 2022 published Find Joy in Chaos, a book about building an online presence and community from nothing.

After roughly five years teaching entrepreneurs, he has turned back to children's education. Public Lab now builds AI-powered learning products for kids: AlphaStage, a creative studio with mentorship and Young Author Camps, and Chatty Bestie, an AI speaking companion for children aged 3 to 8 practising English. He also works as a senior education consultant at Shang NancyFriends in Hong Kong, helping students get into top US boarding schools, and shares a family parenting playbook.
