About Federico Viticci

Federico Viticci is an Italian writer and independent publisher best known as the founder and editor-in-chief of MacStories, one of the most widely read independent sites about Apple, apps and automation. He is also known for his yearly in-depth reviews of iOS and iPadOS and for his long advocacy of the iPad as a primary computer.

Viticci founded MacStories in Viterbo, Italy, in April 2009 and has written about Apple ever since. The site grew from a personal blog into MacStories, Inc., a small team publishing news, app reviews, automation guides and opinion. His annual operating system reviews, which often run to tens of thousands of words, are a fixture for Apple developers and power users.

In 2015 he launched Club MacStories, a paid membership that delivers weekly and monthly newsletters, extra columns, automation workflows and early podcast access. It turned MacStories into a reader-supported business that does not depend only on advertising, and it later expanded into higher tiers for members who want more. He also co-hosts AppStories, a weekly podcast about apps with John Voorhees, plus MacStories Unwind, about media, and NPC: Next Portable Console, about handheld gaming.

Viticci is a heavy user and teacher of Shortcuts and other automation tools, and many readers know him from the workflows he publishes. He also shares small utilities of his own on GitHub, such as frames-cli.

He has moved his social presence from X to Mastodon and Bluesky. MacStories is a long-running example of an independent, member-funded publication built by one founder over more than 15 years.
