About Brennan Dunn

Brennan Dunn is a self-taught developer and founder best known for Double Your Freelancing and the website personalization tool RightMessage. After dropping out of college in 2006 to start a lead-generation company that folded in the housing crash, he worked as a PHP developer, started freelancing in 2008, and grew the practice into a consultancy with eleven salaried employees.

In 2011, after taking Amy Hoy's 30x500 course, he began building Planscope, a project management tool for freelancers and agencies, and left the agency in 2012 to focus on it. Writing content to market Planscope led to a small ebook, Double Your Freelancing Rate, which he presold to fund a conference trip. That became the start of Double Your Freelancing, a portfolio of books, courses and the DYF Academy for freelancers and consultants. He sold Planscope through FE International in early 2016, and in 2022 handed leadership of DYF to Zach.

The segmentation and personalization techniques Brennan built for his own marketing turned into RightMessage, a SaaS he began onboarding customers to around 2017 through personal demo calls. It personalizes existing websites using campaign, behavior, quiz and CRM data. He has also written the Create & Sell newsletter on email marketing and automation and the book This Is Personal.

Brennan is American and lives in Hinckley, England.

Dunn's education business, Double Your Freelancing, had overtaken Planscope, and he realized he enjoyed teaching far more than supporting and coding a SaaS. Planscope had gone into passive mode, so he wanted it to go to an owner who could give it full attention rather than shut it down.
