About Benjamin Houy
Benjamin Houy is a French language teacher turned self-taught developer based in Düsseldorf, Germany. He started French Together in 2013 after teaching French in South Korea, and grew it into a popular blog about learning French before search traffic dropped around 2020.
He then learned to code with Ruby on Rails and rebuilt his course material into a proper app, which was later rebranded as Copycat Cafe. The app teaches through a watch, copy and chat routine in which learners imitate native speakers phrase by phrase with AI pronunciation scoring. Copycat Cafe covers French from A1 to B2 and added Latin American Spanish in 2026, and Benjamin says he is expanding it to more languages.
