Userdesk was built by Luca Restagno and sold in 2024. At the time of the sale it made ~$1.1K MRR.
Why they sold: Luca felt little founder-product fit: the product's audience barely overlapped with his own developer following, its positioning was unclear in a crowded market, and he preferred working on his Next.js boilerplate Shipped.club.
Userdesk is an AI chatbot platform that lets businesses train a chatbot on their website content and embed it for customer support and lead collection. Luca Restagno started it during the AI chatbot wave of early 2023 and pre-launched it in June 2023 with a $69 lifetime deal, selling 20 licenses in 24 hours. Few of those early buyers went on to use the product, which he later saw as misleading validation driven by his Twitter audience.
Userdesk found most of its customers through AI directories and was often praised for its UI and UX. Monthly recurring revenue grew slowly to about $1.1K in under a year, helped by one $500 per month enterprise customer.
In March 2024 Luca listed it on Acquire.com, drew about 20 interested buyers and a couple of offers, and closed the sale through a letter of intent, due diligence and an asset purchase agreement. The buyer and price were not disclosed. It was his fourth exit since 2021, and he turned his focus to Shipped.club and later BlackTwist.

After a round of bug fixes cut new-customer acquisition by about 70%, Nico Jeannen didn't want to spend months on code fixes and support, so he sold quickly before burning out.

Userdesk was sold about 0.8 years after launch, through a marketplace (listed on a startup marketplace such as Acquire.com, Flippa or Microns).
Founder-product fit matters more than expected; an audience that does not overlap with your customers makes growth harder. Presales from your own followers can be impulse purchases that give false validation.
