Short answer

Non-coders get it through app builders like Lovable and Bolt, which connect it for you. Developers and coding agents use the dashboard, CLI and SDKs directly.

Pick Supabase if: Your app builder or agent needs a real Postgres database, auth and storage you can take elsewhere.

Skip it if: Your builder already includes a backend you're happy with (Lovable Cloud, Bolt Database, Base44).

How to vibe code with Supabase

Short steps based on the official docs.

  1. Create a free project at supabase.com and note the project URL and anon/publishable key
  2. In your builder, connect Supabase (Lovable: Integrations > Supabase; Bolt: Account > Applications > Supabase, then Database > Advanced > Connect; v0: the Supabase integration via the Vercel Marketplace)
  3. Prompt the agent to create tables and enable row-level security on every table
  4. Prompt it to add Supabase Auth (email/magic link/OAuth) and test sign-up, then check Authentication > Users in the dashboard
  5. Before launch, review RLS policies and run the Security Advisor in the Supabase dashboard
  6. Upgrade to Pro ($25/mo) for a production app so it isn't paused

Pros

  • Standard Postgres, so there's no proprietary lock-in and you can pg_dump the data out
  • Built-in integrations in major vibe-coding builders (Lovable, Bolt, v0, Figma Make)
  • Auth, storage, row-level security and edge functions in one project
  • Generous free tier for prototypes

Cons and limits

  • Free projects pause after 1 week of inactivity, and only 2 active free projects are allowed
  • Each extra Pro project pays its own compute beyond the $10 credit
  • Security depends on row-level security (RLS) policies, which AI-generated apps often misconfigure
  • Egress, MAU and disk overages are usage-billed

What we couldn't confirm from an official source
  • Several outlets report 'agents deploy the majority of databases' or ~70% AI-created. TechCrunch's figure is 60%+ of launches 'by some sort of AI tool', and only that figure is used here.
  • Reports of a Supabase acquisition of Turso were not confirmed in TechCrunch or any primary source.
  • Supabase's own announcement posts for the Series E and F were not fetched; the figures come from Fortune and TechCrunch.
  • v0's own docs integration page returned 404; v0 support is evidenced only by the Vercel Marketplace listing.
