Easy: Yes, easily Yes, easily. A habit tracker for yourself is a classic first vibe coding project; native reminders and sync are the only tricky bits.
Habits, daily check-ins and streaks are simple data and simple UI, which is why habit trackers are a favourite learning project. A web app or PWA works in an afternoon. Habitify's paid plan is only about $2.49 a month on annual billing, so the reason to build is to learn or to get exactly the tracker you want, not savings. Reliable push reminders on iOS and offline sync are where it gets harder.
Habitify is habit tracking apps with streaks, reminders, statistics and sync across devices. This page is about building your own version for personal or internal use, or to learn how this kind of product works, not about copying Habitify to compete with it. How we grade.
Difficulty is for a solo builder using an AI coding tool. Skip means not worth building yourself.
| Feature | Difficulty | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Habits and daily check-ins | Easy | Two tables: habits and check_ins. |
| Streaks | Easy | Count consecutive days in the user's local date; test edge cases. |
| Heatmap and stats | Easy | Calendar heatmap libraries make this quick. |
| Flexible schedules | Medium | x times per week or specific weekdays need careful streak rules. |
| Reminders | Medium | Web push works in PWAs; iOS requires the app to be installed to the home screen. |
| Sync across devices | Medium | Use a hosted database with auth; offline merge is harder. |
| Native widgets and Apple Health | Skip | Needs a native app; out of scope for a web vibe coding project. |
Your own version vs Habitify, at personal or small-team scale.

Build a habit tracker PWA for my personal use. Features: - Create habits with name, color, and schedule (daily, specific weekdays, or N times per week). - Today view to check off habits with one tap; undo within the day. - Current and best streak per habit, computed in my local time zone; a missed scheduled day breaks the streak, unscheduled days do not. - History heatmap per habit and a weekly completion percentage. - Optional daily reminder via web push at a time I choose. - Installable PWA that works offline and syncs when back online. Data model: habits (id, user_id, name, color, schedule JSON, archived), check_ins (habit_id, local_date, created_at), unique on (habit_id, local_date). Security: - Require login; enforce per-user access with row level security or server checks so users can only read their own habits. - Keep database service keys on the server only. - Write unit tests for streak calculation including DST changes and time zone travel.
AI tools often get these wrong by default. Check each one before anyone else uses the app.
They went far past the prototype: support, payments, reliability and years of iteration. Their profiles show what that took.

Streak logic is a compact lesson in dates, time zones and testing, and the PWA teaches offline storage and web push.
Easy. Yes, easily. A habit tracker for yourself is a classic first vibe coding project; native reminders and sync are the only tricky bits.
A working personal or internal MVP takes about 2–5 h with a tool like Bolt.new. A polished version you would rely on every day takes about 10 h–3 days, mostly spent on reliable push notifications, especially on ios.
Expect $0 at personal or small-team scale (hosting, database and auth, push notifications). Habitify Premium costs $2.49/mo (checked 2026-11-03), so the most you would save is $30 a year, before counting your time.
Yes. A habit tracker is one of the most common first vibe coding projects because the data and UI are simple. Tools like Bolt.new or Lovable can produce a working PWA from one prompt.
Store check-ins by the user's local date, walk backwards from today over scheduled days only, and stop at the first scheduled day without a check-in. Test it around daylight saving changes and travel.
Not for the money, since paid habit apps cost a few dollars a month. It is worth it to learn or to get a tracker that works exactly the way you want.
