Gani Georgiev

Solo creator of PocketBase, the open source backend in a single file

About Gani Georgiev

Gani Georgiev is an independent developer and the creator and primary maintainer of PocketBase, an open source backend written in Go that packs an embedded SQLite database, realtime subscriptions, authentication, file storage and an admin dashboard into one executable.

PocketBase grew out of his earlier open source project Presentator, a self-hosted design feedback and presentation tool. He wanted a self-contained backend that could run on a single cheap server without extra services, and PocketBase became one of the most-starred backend projects on GitHub.

Georgiev runs the project deliberately small. He describes PocketBase as a personal project rather than a startup or business, with no paid team behind it, intentionally limited scope and no fixed roadmap deadlines. He has also stopped accepting individual donations to avoid the implied expectations they bring, which makes him an unusual and principled example of a solo open source maker.
