Alex Slater is a British app founder best known as the co-founder of QUITTR, an iPhone app that helps men quit pornography. Slater built the first version in about ten days as a teenager in 2024, and by March 2026 told New York magazine the app had been downloaded 1.5 million times and was bringing in more than $500,000 a month, without venture funding.
Slater grew up in Surrey, England. The idea came from personal experience: Slater wanted a tool for an addiction that is notoriously hard to break and found nothing that felt modern. The app was built with SwiftUI, Firebase and the Superwall paywall SDK. Through Y Combinator's co-founder matching platform Slater met American marketer Connor McLaren, and the two met in San Francisco in July 2024; the first version went live on the App Store on July 23, 2024.
A Product Hunt launch flopped, so the team turned to the r/NoFap community on Reddit, making a few thousand dollars before being banned for self-promotion. McLaren then put up $3,000 to pay Christian content creators on Instagram, which turned into about $35,000 in sales and became the template for growth: influencer promotions paid by views, followed by paid ads on the best creatives. QUITTR wraps a streak counter, panic button, onboarding quiz and community into a premium-feeling brand, and the founders have said they deliberately made quitting feel cool rather than shameful.
The app's rise came with scrutiny. In early 2026, 404 Media reported that a misconfigured database had exposed sensitive data from hundreds of thousands of users, many of them minors; Slater told Dazed the team had fixed the issue, commissioned a security review and added safeguards.
Slater splits time between London and Miami and, according to LinkedIn, has moved on to build Rift, a cheap-flights booking app, and Soar alongside Cal AI co-founder Henry Langmack. QUITTR is often cited as one of the defining vibe-coded consumer app successes of 2024 and 2025.
