The story of MailTracker

MailTracker is an email open-tracking extension for Gmail and Chrome, originally created by the Hunter.io team. Tom Benattar and a partner took it over from Hunter. Tom has said it had about 100,000 free users and no revenue at the time, and they built it into a paying business.

In October 2026 Tom announced that MailTracker had been acquired by Mailmeteor, the mail-merge and email outreach company. No terms were disclosed.

Tom did not enjoy running an agency: he stayed heavily involved in delivery, and late-evening calls with US clients were affecting his family life. He did not want to spend years becoming an agency operator.
