Bennett Foddy is an Australian game designer and former philosopher known for deliberately awkward, punishing physics games. He played bass in the electronic band Cut Copy until 2004, earned a PhD in philosophy at the University of Melbourne and worked as a deputy director at an Oxford ethics institute while making games on the side.
His browser game QWOP (2008), in which players control a sprinter's thighs and calves with four keys, became an internet phenomenon, followed by GIRP (2011) and CLOP (2012). Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy (2017), in which a man in a cauldron climbs a mountain with a hammer while Foddy narrates, became a streaming staple; its sales have never been officially disclosed, but it has millions of players and third-party Steam estimates range from about 2 to over 6 million copies.
Foddy taught game design at the NYU Game Center and worked on games such as VVVVVV, Ape Out and his own Multibowl. In September 2025 he released Baby Steps with Gabe Cuzzillo and Maxi Boch, published by Devolver Digital, a walking game built around manually controlling each leg.
