Co-founder of Tuple, the bootstrapped remote pair programming app
Ben Orenstein is a developer and founder based in Somerville, Massachusetts, who co-founded Tuple in 2018 with Joel Quenneville and Spencer Dixon. Tuple is a remote pair programming app built as a fast, high-quality replacement for Screenhero after Slack acquired it and later shut its pairing features down.
Before Tuple, Orenstein spent years at thoughtbot, where he taught developers and hosted podcasts. Tuple was notable on Indie Hackers for pre-selling: the team collected thousands of dollars from early customers before the product was fully available and reached five figures of MRR without a public pricing page. The company stayed bootstrapped and self-sufficient, and its growth roughly quadrupled during the shift to remote work in early 2020.
Orenstein has been open about the business through podcasts such as The Art of Product, which he co-hosted with Derrick Reimer.
