What to Tweet was built by Jakob Greenfeld and sold to Tweet Hunter in 2021.
What to Tweet was a free mini-tool that served tweet inspiration prompts. Jakob Greenfeld launched it in December 2020, reportedly building it in about 90 minutes, and it went viral on Product Hunt, finishing as the number two product of the day. Over time it also ranked well in Google for searches about tweet ideas.
In July 2021 the founders of Tweet Hunter, a Twitter growth tool, found the site near the top of the results for that search and saw it as a potential competitor and a source of SEO traffic. Co-founder Tom Jacquesson emailed Jakob expecting to discuss an affiliate deal, but Jakob said he would rather sell. Tweet Hunter made an offer, and the payment and asset transfer were completed in under 48 hours. The price was not disclosed.
Tweet Hunter added a call to action pointing to its product, and What to Tweet quickly became one of its top traffic sources, staying in place as a long-term lead magnet. Tweet Hunter itself was later acquired by lemlist.

Greenfeld felt his data products struggled with churn and had hit a ceiling on recurring revenue, while the buyer had a clear use for it as lead generation for MicroAcquire. He also saw the sale as a chance to learn about acquisitions.

Tweet Hunter and Taplio depended heavily on social platforms, which could shut them down at any moment, so the founders wanted a deal that rewarded their fast growth while protecting the buyer from platform risk.
