Pēteris Caune

Pēteris Caune is a long-time Python developer from Valmiera, Latvia, who runs Healthchecks.io, a monitoring service that alerts users when their cron jobs and scheduled tasks fail to check in. He operates it through his own company, SIA Monkey See Monkey Do, which describes itself as a one-person software and consulting business based in Riga.

Healthchecks.io launched publicly in July 2015 as a side project and grew slowly for years: around its third birthday it had roughly 90 paying customers and a little over $700 a month in revenue. Caune kept the codebase open source under the BSD license and publishes the service's business metrics on its About page, which listed 1,236 paying accounts and $26,000 in monthly recurring revenue in October 2026.

He is known for an unusually transparent, frugal way of running a SaaS: the service runs on Hetzner bare-metal servers, he writes detailed blog posts about infrastructure and pricing decisions, and the company donates 5% of its monthly recurring revenue to the open-source projects it depends on.
