Designer and founder of Ugmonk, maker of the Analog card system and Gather desk organizer
Facts checked 2026-10-30
Jeff Sheldon is a Pennsylvania-based designer and the founder of Ugmonk, a small, self-funded brand of physical products best known for the Analog index-card productivity system and the Gather modular desk organizer. He designs the products himself and runs the business with a tiny team in Pennsylvania.
Sheldon graduated from college in 2008 and took a design job, in Vermont, but three months after graduating, in August 2008, he released four t-shirt designs (200 shirts in all) as a side project, paid for with a $1,000 loan from his father. Early help came from family: his brother built the first website and his mother helped ship orders. For about 12 years Ugmonk was known for minimalist graphic tees, and Sheldon gradually moved production to higher-quality manufacturing and brought fulfillment in-house.
The shift to desk products started with Gather, a modular organizer he launched on Kickstarter in 2017. The bigger hit was Analog, a system of index cards and a wooden card holder for planning each day on paper, which raised almost $500,000 from more than 5,500 backers on Kickstarter in 2020 and became the brand's flagship. Around 2023 Ugmonk stopped making apparel altogether; the announcement produced the company's best single sales day ever, as fans bought the last shirts in bulk.
Ugmonk has never raised outside money. In 2022 Sheldon described a team of five plus a new general manager, and in a January 2025 interview he said the company had two full-time staff and a part-time crew of two to five. He sells mainly through his own site, prefers owning the customer relationship and grows deliberately rather than chasing scale.
Sheldon is a reference point for indie makers moving from digital design into physical products: he pre-sells new ideas on Kickstarter, keeps the product line narrow and treats quality and taste as the moat.
