Christopher Gimmer

Christopher Gimmer is a software entrepreneur best known as the co-founder of Snappa, a bootstrapped online graphic design tool, and more recently of GoodMetrics, a cookieless web analytics product. He is a regular on MicroConf and Indie Hackers for sharing Snappa's numbers openly.

Gimmer started his career in finance as an analyst for the Canadian federal government and was working toward his CPA before leaving to build software. With his co-founder Marc, he launched Snappa in beta on July 1, 2015 and officially on November 23, 2015; a month after launch it had $4,093 in MRR. The company was based in Ottawa and grew almost entirely through content marketing and SEO, which Gimmer later described in a MicroConf On Air episode.

Snappa passed $55,000 MRR in March 2019 and $100,000 MRR in April 2020, with a team of only a handful of people. It peaked at about $1.6 million ARR. Gimmer has said the company is 100% bootstrapped, and Snappa drew attention in 2020 for holding a large share of its cash reserve in Bitcoin.

After the plateau, Gimmer chose not to raise venture capital and instead let Snappa ride while running it with a team of four. In an Indie Hackers interview he said revenue has since slipped to just under $1 million ARR, still enough to pay the bills. He is now rebuilding Snappa around AI and building GoodMetrics, a Google Analytics alternative with an MCP server, and he also runs a local media site, SRQ Weekly, in Sarasota, Florida, where he lives.

His story is a realistic one for SaaS founders: a long, profitable run from a simple product, an honest plateau and a second act built from the same playbook.
