Vibe Coding Jobs: Real Roles, Cleanup Gigs and What They Pay

Where the paid work is, who is hiring, what the cleanup-specialist trend actually is, and why many vibe coders end up hiring themselves.

By · Published

TL;DR

“Vibe coding jobs” are four kinds of paid work: AI-native engineering and product roles at established companies (2025 postings at ServiceNow, Google, eBay, Visa and others asked for it), generalist “vibe coder” roles at startups (one Brooklyn posting lists $80K–$150K), freelance cleanup work fixing and securing AI-built apps, and building MVPs for clients.

There is no trustworthy salary survey for the title yet, so compare offers with normal software pay. A shipped app with real users is the portfolio that gets you hired, and many vibe coders end up hiring themselves.

What “vibe coding jobs” actually are

Few employers post a job called “vibe coder”. The work shows up under four labels:

TypeTypical titlesWho it suits
AI-native roles at established companiesSoftware engineer, product engineer, design engineer, AI engineer “with AI-assisted development”Developers and designers who already have the base skills
Generalist builder at a startupVibe coder, founding engineer, growth engineer, internal tools builderFast shippers comfortable owning a product end to end
Cleanup and rescue (freelance)Vibe code cleanup specialist, “fix your Lovable/Bolt app”, security hardeningExperienced engineers, especially with security and database skills
Building for clientsMVP developer, no-code/AI agency, freelance app builderVibe coders who can also sell, scope and manage clients

The shift behind all four: Y Combinator said in March 2025 that about a quarter of its Winter 2025 startups had codebases that were 95% AI-generated (source: techcrunch.com). Teams expect people to build with AI; the scarce skill is building well with it.

Who is hiring, with real examples

GlobalData’s job analytics reported in September 2025 that postings mentioning vibe coding were rising across technology, retail, financial services, healthcare and media. It named roles including a Director of Engineering for ServiceNow’s AI-powered developer platform, a Principal Engineer at Google, a GenAI Solutions Designer at eBay, a Staff Fullstack Engineer (GenAI) at Visa, a Director of Product Design at HCA Healthcare and a Senior AI Engineer on Quora’s Poe (source: globaldata.com). Note the seniority: at big companies, vibe coding is a skill added to an existing role, not an entry-level job.

Startups are more literal. A Senpilot listing for a “Vibe Coder (Office of CEO)” in Brooklyn offered $80,000–$150,000, described broad autonomy to build products end to end, and named Claude Code, Cursor, Supabase, Vercel and Render as the tools (source: jobs.aapc.com). That combination, a specific AI toolchain plus ownership of whole products, is the pattern to look for.

Where to search: LinkedIn, Indeed and remote boards with the terms “vibe coding”, “AI-assisted development”, “Cursor” or “Claude Code” in the description, not just the title. Startup boards such as Y Combinator’s Work at a Startup and Wellfound surface founding-engineer roles where this is the default way of working.

Vibe code cleanup specialists: real trend or meme?

Both. The title began as a LinkedIn joke in 2025, with profiles advertising themselves as “vibe coding cleanup specialists”. 404 Media then reported in September 2025 that freelance developers and whole companies were building businesses around fixing shoddy vibe-coded software, while noting it could not confirm the accounts in the original meme (source: 404media.co).

Marketplaces confirm the demand. Fiverr said on its Q2 2025 earnings call that categories including vibe coding had grown five to tenfold on its marketplace over six months, and in July 2025 it launched a campaign and services aimed at people who started an app with AI and need help finishing it: deployment, bug fixing, backend and database work, and making projects production-ready (sources: sec.gov, fiverr.com).

The work itself is mostly:

  • Security hardening: row-level security, moving secrets server-side, auth checks on every route.
  • Untangling: splitting 3,000-line files, removing duplicate logic, adding tests.
  • Shipping: deployment, environment variables, payments and email that actually work.
  • Rescue: recovering from an agent that broke the app, or migrating off a builder that can’t scale.

If you want this work, learn the failure modes in our vibe coding security checklist; it doubles as an audit you can sell.

Remote and freelance vibe coding work

Most vibe coding income today is freelance and remote. The most common offers are fixed-price MVPs, cleanup audits, internal tools and landing pages. What works for the makers in our directory:

  • Prajwal Tomar runs IgnytLabs, an agency that builds MVPs for non-technical founders on short fixed timelines, often around 21 days, using Lovable, Cursor and Supabase. He has said it has shipped more than 60 apps, and he started by running client projects while still holding a full-time job (source: prajwaltomar.co).
  • Rob Hallam started the Liftoff MVP studio after being laid off, and noticed most clients found him through his viral posts on X, an insight that led to his own product (sources: liftoff.so, indiehackers.com).

Practical rules for freelance vibe coding:

  1. Sell outcomes with fixed scope and price, not hours; AI makes you fast, so hourly billing punishes you.
  2. Write the spec with the client before building. Our PRD template in the prompts guide works as a scoping document.
  3. Hand over code the client owns, in their accounts, with a short security checklist signed off.
  4. Show your process publicly. Clients hire the builder they have watched ship.

Vibe coding salary: what the data does and doesn’t say

We could not find a reliable salary survey for vibe coding as a job title. Several sites publish confident averages built from scraped listings with unclear methods and ranges running from five to seven figures; we do not repeat them. What we can source:

SourceWhat it measuresFigureCaveat
Senpilot job posting, “Vibe Coder (Office of CEO)” (source: jobs.aapc.com)One company’s advertised salary range, Brooklyn, NY$80,000–$150,000 a yearA single posting seen via a job-board aggregator; confirm it is still open.
ZipRecruiter, “AI job coding” (source: ziprecruiter.com)Average US hourly pay for AI-related coding job listings (July 2026)$33.02/hour average; most between $25.00 and $39.90Covers listings matching “AI job coding”, not vibe coding roles specifically.

The practical answer: AI-native roles at established companies pay like the underlying role (software engineer, product designer) at that level, and the AI skill makes you more competitive rather than earning a separate premium. Freelance pay depends on what you sell. A fixed-price MVP or a security audit is priced on the value to the client, not on hours.

Skills employers and clients actually want

  • A specific toolchain, used daily: postings name Claude Code, Cursor, Supabase and Vercel, not “AI”.
  • Specs and scoping: turning a vague request into a buildable plan.
  • Review and testing: knowing when the AI is wrong, writing tests, reading diffs.
  • Security basics: auth, row-level security, secrets, prompt injection.
  • Product sense and shipping: deploying, measuring and iterating with real users.

Courses help with the first and third points (see vibe coding courses), but the proof is a portfolio. Mckay Wrigley is a good example of the path: he left law school for a coding bootcamp, documented it in public, landed a full-stack developer job six months later, and later built an audience and a school around AI-assisted coding (sources: nytimes.com, mckaywrigley.com).

The other option: hire yourself

Because AI collapses the cost of building, many people searching for vibe coding jobs end up with something more valuable: their own product or business. Makers in our directory who did:

  • Sebastian Volkis built TrendFeed with AI in four days and reports $29K/mo (TrendFeed + CodeSpring) (2025) (source: indiehackers.com) across TrendFeed and CodeSpring.
  • Alex Finn built Creator Buddy largely with AI coding tools and reports $300K ARR (Creator Buddy) (2026) (source: x.com), plus a paid Vibe Coding Academy.
  • Riley Brown went from AI content creator to co-founding Vibecode, which raised a $9.4M seed round in 2025 (source: businessinsider.com).
  • Jacob Teague is vibe coding 100 apps in public as a new father, with 11 live by October 2026 (source: 100apps.app).

A 30-day plan to get your first paid vibe coding work

  1. Week 1: ship one small app end to end with our tutorial, including auth and a database.
  2. Week 2: run the security checklist on it, fix what you find, and write up the before and after.
  3. Week 3: build a second app for someone else for free or cheap (a local business, a friend’s startup) and get a testimonial.
  4. Week 4: publish both case studies, post your process on X or LinkedIn, and list one fixed-price offer (an MVP, an audit or an internal tool) on a marketplace or your own page.

Frequently asked questions

Are there real vibe coding jobs?

Yes, but few use the title. Established companies add AI-assisted development to engineering and product roles (GlobalData found such postings at ServiceNow, Google, eBay, Visa, HCA Healthcare and Quora), some startups advertise generalist 'vibe coder' roles, and there is a growing freelance market for building and fixing AI-built apps.

What is a vibe coding cleanup specialist?

A developer who fixes apps built with AI tools: securing databases and API keys, refactoring tangled code, adding tests and getting the app properly deployed. The title started as a LinkedIn meme in 2025, but 404 Media and Fiverr both reported real paid demand for this work.

How much do vibe coding jobs pay?

There is no reliable salary survey for the title. One startup posting for a 'Vibe Coder' role in Brooklyn listed $80,000 to $150,000. Roles at established companies pay like the underlying engineering or product role, and freelance pay depends on the fixed-price outcomes you sell.

Can I get a remote vibe coding job?

Yes. Much of the work is remote and freelance: fixed-price MVPs, cleanup audits and internal tools sold through marketplaces such as Fiverr and Upwork, your own site or social media. Full-time remote roles exist but usually expect solid software fundamentals as well.

Do I need a degree or certificate to get a vibe coding job?

No. No vibe coding certificate is an industry credential. Clients and startups hire on proof: deployed apps with real users, a clear process and evidence you can secure and maintain what you build.
