About Syed Balkhi

Syed Balkhi is a Pakistani-born American entrepreneur best known as the founder of WPBeginner, the largest free WordPress tutorial site, and of Awesome Motive, the company behind WordPress plugins such as WPForms, OptinMonster, MonsterInsights and All in One SEO. He says software built by his companies runs on more than 30 million websites.

Balkhi was born in Karachi and moved to the United States with his family at the age of 12. He studied at the University of Florida, graduating with honors in anthropology and religion. In 2009 he launched WPBeginner to explain WordPress to beginners and non-technical small-business owners; it became the anchor of everything that followed, because its audience told him which tools people actually needed.

His first big product was OptinMonster, a lead-capture and popup tool launched in 2013. WPForms followed in 2016 and grew into one of the most used form builders for WordPress, with over 5 million sites. From there Balkhi turned Awesome Motive into a buyer and builder of WordPress products: MonsterInsights (2016), WP Mail SMTP (2017), SeedProd (2018), All in One SEO, Smash Balloon and PushEngage (2020), Easy Digital Downloads and SearchWP (2021), Duplicator and Thrive Themes (2023), and BuddyBoss, Beacon and LowFruits (2024). He also started and sold the list site List25.

Today he is CEO of Awesome Motive, invests in other founders and runs the Balkhi Foundation, which funds schools in Guatemala and Cambodia and higher-education grants. He lives in Florida, and the United Nations once named him among the top 100 entrepreneurs under 30.

For makers his path is a textbook content-to-product flywheel: build a trusted free resource, listen to the readers, ship the plugins they ask for and then buy the products they already love.
