About Jordi de Paco

Jordi de Paco is a Spanish game designer and writer best known as the founder and director of Deconstructeam, the small Valencia studio behind Gods Will Be Watching, The Red Strings Club, The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood and Virtue and a Sledgehammer. The studio is one of the best-known independent developers in Spain and is known for narrative games about empathy, identity and technology.

De Paco founded Deconstructeam in March 2012. Its break came from a game jam: a short game made for Ludum Dare 26 caught the attention of Devolver Digital, which became the studio's publisher. Expanded into Gods Will Be Watching, a tense point-and-click game about survival and moral choices, it raised more than €20,000 on Indiegogo and launched on July 24, 2014.

After a difficult period following that release, the team made The Red Strings Club (January 22, 2018), a cyberpunk adventure about a bartender who mixes drinks to read his customers' emotions, as well as a pottery-wheel implant workshop. It won Best National Development at Spain's Titanium Awards in 2018. In 2021 the studio released Essays on Empathy, a paid collection of its short game-jam projects plus a new game made for the release. The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, a narrative game about a witch who designs her own tarot deck, followed on August 16, 2023.

In late October 2026 Deconstructeam and Selkie Harbour released Virtue and a Sledgehammer through Devolver Digital, the studio's first fully 3D game, built around physics-driven destruction. De Paco has described the project as being like going back to game development school.

De Paco also co-hosts the Spanish-language podcast Hablar with Deconstructeam's Marina González and regularly speaks about game jams, writing and Spain's indie scene. The studio keeps a small team and still prototypes its ideas through jams before turning them into full games.
