Why they sold: Peter Askew said he felt he had accomplished what he set out to do with the site and that it had given him as much as he had given it.

The story of DudeRanch.com

DudeRanch.com is a directory for dude ranch vacations where ranches pay yearly fees to be listed. Peter Askew bought the expired domain at auction in November 2009 for $17,949 and built the business without ever having visited a ranch; it became the project that let him quit his job.

The site changed hands before: Askew sold it in 2019 to David McCollough, a competitor-turned-friend who ran GuestRanches.com, then bought it back in 2023 bundled with GuestRanches.com and DudeRanchVacations.com.

In August 2025 Askew said he was considering a sale, and the deal closed on 9 September 2025 through the Quiet Light brokerage. The price was not disclosed; the buyer was described as a San Diego-based woman with a background in equestrian outfitting and the dude ranch world.
