About Blake Anderson

Blake Anderson is a New York-based consumer app founder best known for building RizzGPT (now PlugAI), the looksmaxxing app Umax and, as a co-founder, the AI calorie tracker Cal AI, three viral AI apps that together were doing about $15.4 million in annual recurring revenue by October 2024. Anderson had no engineering background and has said the first app was built by asking ChatGPT how to do each step.

The first idea came from a roommate asking what to reply to a match on a dating app. Anderson turned that into RizzGPT, an app that reads a screenshot of a dating-app conversation and suggests a reply, later renamed PlugAI. Umax followed, built after spending time in looksmaxxing communities: users upload a selfie and get an AI-generated attractiveness rating and a plan to improve it.

Anderson then teamed up with high-school founders Zach Yadegari and Henry Langmack to launch Cal AI in May 2024, an app that estimates calories from a photo of a meal. The team applied the same playbook to all three apps: find a problem that already gets millions of views on social media, immerse yourself in that audience with anonymous accounts, keep the product very simple, and grow through influencer posts while tracking revenue per thousand views against cost per thousand views. Cal AI passed $30 million in annual revenue and was acquired by MyFitnessPal in March 2026.

In 2025 Anderson took part in PMF or Die, a livestreamed challenge produced by TBPN that locked two builders, Anderson and Patrick Callaway, in a New York apartment with $25,000 and 90 days to build a $1 million business. Anderson has since launched 10X, an app studio in SoHo, New York, that backs young developers with capital and the same distribution playbook.

Anderson is on Forbes' 30 Under 30 alongside the Cal AI team and is one of the faces of the wave of young, TikTok-driven indie app makers who build consumer products on top of large language models.

How Blake builds

  • Look for problems that already get millions of views on social media before building.
  • Become the audience: join its communities with anonymous accounts until you think like them.
  • Keep consumer apps extremely simple; show prototypes to friends and only proceed if they are genuinely excited.
  • Grow with influencers and compare revenue per thousand views with cost per thousand views.
  • Value the number of subscribers over squeezing the highest price.
